Occultations of planets by Moon

One Hundred Millennium Catalog: 50 000 BC - 50 000 AD

Multiple Occultations

Though each planet is being occulted roughly 200 times a century, occasions where multiple planets are being occulted are extremely rarer. During the 100 000 years interval centered on the beginning of current era Moon occults three naked eye planets simultaneously only three times. There are not even close misses of four planets simultaneous occultation during this interval. Like single occultations, here observation is possible from only small portion of the world. Below you can find occasions when more than two planets are simultaneously occulted by Moon somewhere on Earth. In first two columns date and time of minimum geocentric separation between centers of all objects in uniform TT can be found. Next columns reveal planets being occulted and their respective estimated apparent magnitudes. Finally the elongation from Sun of the closest to Sun object is being displayed, in degrees. An asterisk follows the date in cases where the occurrence of event is uncertain.

Occasions where Moon occults only two planets simultaneously are much more common. Please see the Eight Millennium Catalog of Dual Occultaions for a list of these still rare events.
